NGC7000 (North America Nebula) Mosaic (2005-09-26)327 viewsThis mosaic consists of 4 images each with 15 subframes exposed for 2 minutes. The location was Julie Lane Observatory.
The optics consists of a Nikon 135mm SLR lens attached (using a Mogg Nikon/M42 adapter) to a Starlight Xpress MX716. The filter used as an Astronomik Ha filter. The optics were mounted on an LX-200. Guiding was managed by GuideDog. Image acquisition was done by Cartes du Ciel. Image capture was by AstroArt. Postprocessing was done by AstroArt, PaintShop Pro and AutoStitch.
All telescope and camera control for acquisition, capture and guiding was operated remotely via a wireless LAN.

Veil Nebula (NGC6992/5) -- East Portion191 viewsCaptured at Julie Lane Observatory North with 15-day old moon glaring down. 20 (out of 20!) 4-minute exposures captured in AstroArt; postpocessed in Astroart; final touches in Paint.Net. Autoguided with Stellarvue SV80L, Mogg focal reducer, modified Philips webcam and GuideDog (via ASCOM).
This is the first use of the Nikon 200mm f/4 lens purchased in 2005 and it was quite impressive: I used the lens at f/4 and achieved very tight focus.

This is my first astronomy image combining the Canon 300D and a telescope.

LXD55 mount with NexStar 80 and 135mm Nikon lens106 viewsThis image shows a lightweight setup for wide-field imaging. The LXD-55 mount has Stellarvue deluxe rings to hold the N80. A 1/2 Losmandy plate is attached to the rings. A set of Losmandy 90mm guide rings are mounted on a Losmandy DA plate. The MX716 camera has a Mogg "Nikon->SX M42" adapter to allow the use of a Nikon camera with the MX716 (and its M42 threads).
Standard 1.25 filters can be put into the optical path using a filter holder from Gerd Neumann.
The N80 is used as a guide scope with the modified Vesta webcam and guiding is done via GuideDog using ASCOM interfaces.

IC1805 in Cassiopeia105 viewsEmission nebula IC1805 in Cassiopeia, sometimes called the "Heart Nebula".
15 frames of 240s captured with a Nikon 135mm SLR lens, Astronomik Halpha filter, Mogg adapter, Starlight Xpress MX716 camera. The mount was an LX-200. Camera control via AstroArt 3.0; Pre-processing (including sigma combine and ddp) in AA; Final adjustments in Paint.Net.

NGC7000 (North American Nebula)102 viewsThis image combines B and G color data from an image captured with my Canon 300D on August 21, 2005 and Halpha data captured August 1, 2005 with my Starlight Xpress MX716. The images were coregistered and combined in AstroArt 3.0 and final image touch ups were done with Paint.Net.
This is really just an experiment in combining color because I didn't intend to use the monochrome and color photos together. The Canon image shows virtually no hint of the nebula.

IC1848 in Cassiopeia101 viewsEmission nebula IC1848 in Cassiopeia, sometimes called the "Baby Nebula".

Primary: LXD-55 mount, Nikon 200mm f/4 lens, Astronomik Halpha filter, SX MX716 camera, Astroart 3.0.
Guiding: T80, Vesta, GuideDog (ASCOM).
Image Processing: Astroart, Paint.Net:Resize, DDP, bloat reduction, unsharp, curve adjustment, resize.
