Julie Lane Observatory

JLO Narrow.jpg

Julie Lane Observatory (JLO) is my nickname for my house. The aerial and equipment images show my neighborhood and my stuff.

The closest clear sky clock is "Smith Observing Site". You can check the weather forecast or satellit/radar loop at Accuweather.

The site parameters are latitude = 42.3700° N, longitude = 87.9020° W; time zone: Central Standard Time (GMT - 6:00)

Missouri - 2005

IMG_0843.jpg

These are some pictures from my May 2005 trip to the Ozark National Scenic Riverway.

I stayed at the Powder Mill campground due to the promise of very dark skies from the Clear Sky Clock and its light pollution maps.

The Google hybrid map shows the 8 campsites. I was at the southmost one near the loop.

1965 Jupiter Drawings

JS 65-A.jpg

This is set of drawings I made in 1965 from Westmont, IL, USA. At the time, AFAICR, I had a 3" Newtonian reflector, probably f/12 or f/13. I suspect I had 1" (25mm) and .5" (12mm) eyepieces.

NGC7000 (North American Nebula)97 viewsThis image combines B and G color data from an image captured with my Canon 300D on August 21, 2005 and Halpha data captured August 1, 2005 with my Starlight Xpress MX716. The images were coregistered and combined in AstroArt 3.0 and final image touch ups were done with Paint.Net.

This is really just an experiment in combining color because I didn't intend to use the monochrome and color photos together. The Canon image shows virtually no hint of the nebula.

M8 (Lagoon Nebula)95 viewsCaptured during a cloud lull at main objectives n/o 8/11/2006. Shot through narrow slit between house and trees. M8 was at 15 degrees alt over garage and neighborhood houses. I wanted more exposures, but the third in the sequence showed the nebula going behind trees.

Primary: LXD-55 mount, Nikon 200mm f/4 lens, Astronomik Halpha filter, SX MX716 camera, Astroart 3.0.
Guiding: T80, Vesta, GuideDog (ASCOM).

Image Processing: Astroart, Paint.Net:Resize, DDP, bloat reduction, unsharp, curve adjustment, resize.
