NGC7000 (North America Nebula) Mosaic (2005-09-26)327 viewsThis mosaic consists of 4 images each with 15 subframes exposed for 2 minutes. The location was Julie Lane Observatory.

The optics consists of a Nikon 135mm SLR lens attached (using a Mogg Nikon/M42 adapter) to a Starlight Xpress MX716. The filter used as an Astronomik Ha filter. The optics were mounted on an LX-200. Guiding was managed by GuideDog. Image acquisition was done by Cartes du Ciel. Image capture was by AstroArt. Postprocessing was done by AstroArt, PaintShop Pro and AutoStitch.

All telescope and camera control for acquisition, capture and guiding was operated remotely via a wireless LAN.

M8 (Lagoon Nebula)100 viewsCaptured during a cloud lull at main objectives n/o 8/11/2006. Shot through narrow slit between house and trees. M8 was at 15 degrees alt over garage and neighborhood houses. I wanted more exposures, but the third in the sequence showed the nebula going behind trees.

Primary: LXD-55 mount, Nikon 200mm f/4 lens, Astronomik Halpha filter, SX MX716 camera, Astroart 3.0.
Guiding: T80, Vesta, GuideDog (ASCOM).

Image Processing: Astroart, Paint.Net:Resize, DDP, bloat reduction, unsharp, curve adjustment, resize.

IC5070 (Pelican Nebula)77 views8x120s; guided by GuideDog w/Vesta webcam through LX-200 10" f/10 + 6.3FR; captured, stacked, processed with AstroArt 3.0; post-processing with PaintShop Pro 8.0

This was my first use of the 135mm/Ha combo on the LX-200. I planned on 60m of exposure but was cut short by clouds.

My humble optics38 viewsI travelled light -- only carrying the NexStar 5, a photo tripod and my Canon 300D for imaging. My power for operations (including the laptop PC) at the campsite/observing area was supplied by my Optima battery and my power control box.
