Sirius Optics Minus Violet ( MV1 ) Filter

01/18/2003

Left - K3CCD Tools with MV1 filter and a Mogg 0.6 Focal reducer 30 second frames
best 14 - 30 second images stacked in Registax, 2x resampling, 50 percent bias subtract, dark frame subtracted
no further processing.

The image is a link to the original bitmap, cropped slightly to get rid of areas where each frame didn't overlap.

Right - Previous M42 with Mogg 0.6 FR 20 second frames without MV1 filter just to show the color difference

I am not sure if seeing wasn't as good for the new image (left) or if there was some issue with using the Mogg FR and MV1 piggyback. (I had the Mogg FR on the outside, the MV1 next, the 1-1/4" adapter then the camera.) But certainly the MV1 reduced the amount of purple color. If I process more, I can see some green perhaps, on the edges of the nebulousity, but I'm not sure how the image should really look... if anyone wants to download the bitmap and see what they can do with it, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

The above image processed with a decent amount of histogram stretching and a 150%, 1 pixel radius, Threshold 2 sharpening before size reduction in Photoshop.

Everything stacked, totally overprocessed in Photoshop -- histogram stretched fully... and oh yeah, I did a 180 degree rotation on the image so I could compare it to the core of this great image : http://www.geocities.co.jp/Technopolis/5267/99_12_30.html.
